Hardware Hackathon
In the past IEEE TAMU hosted our flagship hackathon, TAMUmake and we have also partnered with TAMUhack to host the hardware track in 2024. However, this year we will be starting our new hackathon initiative, Technothon! In short, teams will work on a project and present to a panel of judges for a chance to win prizes! Technothon is proudly partnered with the Arm Developer Program.
Frequently Asked Questions!
What is Technothon?
Technothon is an extended hardware hackathon where teams of up to 3 participants design and build hardware projects over the course of a month. It offers a unique opportunity to innovate and compete at your own pace, all resulting in a final in person demonstration of your project! Hackers can work on their project at home, school, or anywhere they prefer!
How can I sign up?
You and your team can sign up by submitting your group application online between September 12th and 15th. Make sure to form your team and complete the registration before the deadline! If you would like to participate solo, that is fine too!
How long is the hackathon?
Technothon spans the course of four weeks. The first week (September 15-22) is for project planning and brainstorming. From September 23rd to October 11th, participants will have access to hardware and time to work on their projects, with final judging taking place on October 13th.
How can I get equipment and parts?
Participants can check out equipment from IEEE in person during the build phase (Sep 23 - Oct 11). A full inventory list will be provided along with pictures and descriptions of each hardware component, and participants are also welcome to use their own hardware. We have a wide array of microcontrollers, sensors, motors, and input/output devices for checkout!
How can I get help?
There will be a Discord server for all participants, where you can get help from fellow participants or IEEE officers. You can reach out to IEEE mentors or event organizers for assistance throughout the event. We will provide support both online and in person during the build phase.
How does judging work?
Teams will present their completed projects in person on Judgement Day (October 13th) at a designated location. You can also record your project and functionality, and present that as well instead. Final details will be announced closer to the date.
